JibJab, the digital entertainment studio run by two California-based brothers that have brought us hundreds of satirical videos including “This Land is Your Land” and “Time for Some Campaignin’,” have once again outdone themselves in their latest web video – this time poking fun at those who believed the end of the world was coming last Friday.
Dubbed “The End is Here,” the video summarizes the highlights (and lo-lights) of what some through might have been the last year of civilization on Earth.
Naturally the video summarizes the 2012 presidential race, with President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden kicking Republicans Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan in the rears on the White House front lawn. Other political highlights from 2012 included in the video include Libya, the Supreme Court affirming the constitutionality of Obamacare, and the upcoming fiscal cliff.
It wouldn’t be a JibJab video, however, if it didn’t fun at the numerous political scandals that consumed us over the past 12 months. Everything from Rush Limbaugh’s comments about Georgetown student Sandra Fluke to the Chick-fil-A anti-gay controversy and Clint Eastwood’s monologue with a chair at the Republican National Convention is included in the video.
Celebrities were not immune to criticism either. Cyclist Lance Armstrong can be seen at a bar lamenting about the doping scandal that took away his Tour de France wins while Twilight actress Kristen Stewart is mocked for cheating on boyfriend Robert Pattinson with her Snow White director.
Other pop culture highlights in the video include the nation’s obsessions with “Gangham Style,” Zumba, “Honey Boo Boo” and “Fifty Shades of Grey,” Snooki becoming a mom, and the replacement NFL referees that started the 2012 season.
Homage was also paid to those who died in 2012, including Whitney Houston, Neil Armstrong and Tommy Chong of “Chooch and Chong.”
While JibJab is primarily known for its satirical political and pop culture videos, one can also make e-cards for friends and family, video spoofs of classic movies and star in a Katy Perry music video personalized with photos.
