He may be retiring from public office in a few days, but Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) isn’t quite finished ruffling up Republican feathers in D.C. just yet.
The Massachusetts Congressman is the signatory on the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s (DCCC) latest fundraising email, which alleges that the Republican Party is made up of “right-wing extremists” who refuse to work with President Obama as he enters his second term in office next month. Frank also insinuates in the email that Obama’s victory last month gave the Democratic party the mandate that would allow them to dominate the political debate in the 113th Congress.
As an added bonus, the committee will both match the donations received dollar-for-dollar and will enter each individual donor into the sweepstakes to win a free trip to D.C. for Obama’s inauguration.
This is just the latest in a string of attacks that the DCCC has launched to smear Congressional Republicans. Earlier this month the committee launched web and radio ads in the districts of 21 vulnerable House Republicans, which claimed that those Congressmen were holding the middle-class tax cuts “hostage” and “threatening to send the economy over the fiscal cliff” by refusing to sign the discharge petition that would have allowed the chamber to debate the Senate’s middle-class tax cut legislation.
