Obama praises fiscal cliff deal & mocks Republicans in new video

Apparently someone needs to remind Barack Obama that the campaign is over and that he’s officially a lame duck president…

The candidate-in-chief released his 2,999th video on the campaign’s YouTube today, which discusses the benefits of the fiscal cliff legislation that Congress passed yesterday (as well as once again blaming Congressional Republicans for delaying the deal). Obama praises the fact that the new law will keep taxes low for 98 percent of Americans and extend unemployment benefits for those in need, while extending tax credits for college students and companies investing in green energy.

“Ever since I took office my preference has always been to reach a bigger agreement that solves our whole deficit problem in a balanced and responsible way. I’ll admit, that hasn’t always been as easy as I hoped it would be,” Obama stated.

While the president acknowledges that there is more work to be done to reduce the nation’s deficit, he doesmanage to once again rub his electoral victory in the face of Congressional Republicans by commenting that the permanent tax increases on the wealthiest two percent of Americans that were included in the deal will “[make] our tax code more progressive than it’s been in decades.”

“Once we get this done we can get to work on the issues that will determine whether America prospers, not just for the next four years, but for the next four years,” Obama stated before naming a laundry list of goals he plans on pursuing during his second term, including fighting climate change, reforming our immigration system, and continuing to withdraw American troops from Afghanistan.

“In other words, making sure this country remains a place where you can make it if you try.”

Now if only someone would remind the president to sign the darn bill into law
