Center for Immigration Studies creates ‘Life of Julia’ parody based on Senate immigration bill

Remember President Obama’s “Life of Julia”infographic? Well, she’s back…sort of.

The Center for Immigration Studies, a nonpartisan organization focused exclusively on U.S. immigration policy, released its own “Life of Julia” infographic this week – except now Julia’s an illegal immigrant applying for amnesty under the policies set forth by the Senate Gang of Eight’s immigration reform bill.

The nine-slide infographic series doesn’t just show Julia’s progression to becoming an American citizen, however. It also points out the loopholes within the Senate’s bill that would actually make it easier for her to get amnesty. For example, the first slide explains Julia is able to get legal status just six months after the bill becomes law – as soon as Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano submits plans for increased border security. Another slide explains how Julia and other illegal immigrants don’t need to pay back taxes, but instead simply need to iron out any problems they have with the Internal Revenue Service before applying.

While the Senate is expected to pass the Gang of Eight’s bill before the Fourth of July recess, it is largely considered to be dead on arrival in the House because many conservative Republicans in the chamber do not believe it goes far enough to secure the nation’s borders.
