Congratulations go out to House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.), who gave birth to daughter Brynn Catherine on Sunday. Brynn’s birth makes her mother the first member of Congress to give birth to their third child while in office since Montana Rep. Jeannette Rankin was first sworn into office nearly 100 years ago.
The congresswoman announced Brynn’s birthday via Instagram.
“Welcome Brynn Catherine! (Born at 6:19 am on Nov. 24, weighing 7 lbs. 6 oz.) Nothing compares to the miracle of bringing a new life into the world. She’s beautiful and seems to be taking it all in stride. Our hearts are full,” the post reads.
Both mom and daughter are doing well, according to sources at the House Republican Conference.
McMorris Rodgers had announced in July that she and her husband, Brian Rodgers, were expecting another child. She gave birth to son Cole in April 2007 and daughter Grace in December 2010.
As chairwoman of the House Republican Conference, McMorris Rodgers is the fourth-highest member of the Republican leadership in the House, as well as the party’s highest-ranking female member. McMorris Rodgers has been representing Washington’s Fifth Congressional District since 2005.
