It’s no secret that the hosts of MSNBC‘s “Morning Joe” are big fans of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, but the show’s liberal co-host Mika Brzezinski wanted nothing to do with the frequent comparisons of how Christie and President Barack Obama have handled scandals plaguing their administrations on the show Monday morning.
Brzezinski, who is the daughter of former National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski, firmly believes that Christie’s “Bridgegate” scandal and the multiple controversies surrounding the Obama Administration last spring are as different as apples and oranges – so much so that she cut off guest Mark Halperin when he tried to do just that.
Halperin, a writer for TIME Magazine and co-writer of the books“Game Change” and “Double Down”, was trying to make the point that Obama never subjected himself to the media grilling that Christie underwent during his nearly two-hour press conference Thursday.
“That’s, I think, a terrible parallel. This is Chris Christie’s problem and there is no parallel to President Obama here…” Brzezinski said. “Christie is the governor of New Jersey, and President Obama… to bring up Benghazi and the IRS is like flailing for some sort of distraction.”
“That is true also,” Halperin replied.
“I mean, c’mon. It’s Christie, it’s New Jersey,” she added. “Stick to that story, which is fascinating!”
On Friday, the day after the press conference, the “Morning Joe” team “offered a sober, honest assessment of the damage that had been done to Christie and the steps the governor still needed to take in order to salvage his reputation,” according to POLITICO‘s Dylan Byers.
