The 22 Democrats who’ve already left or plan to leave their Congressional seats this cycle

Katie LaPotin and Morgan Murtaugh, Red Alert Politics, February 4, 2014

Including longtime Rep. Rob Andrews’ (D-N.J.) resignation announcement Tuesday morning, 9 percent of all Democrat legislators sworn into office on January 3, 2013 have either left or are planning to leave their original seat by the end of the 113th Congress.

Granted, some of the departures are to seek higher office – either within Congress or at the state level – and one is the result of a death. The vacancies, however, will result in a serious shakeup of the party’s makeup come 2015 – as many of those departing have been in Congress for decades and thus hold various leadership positions within Congress.

Listed below are the 22 members of Congress who have either already moved on or are planning to move on in November, organized by type of departure. The district’s Cook Partisan Voter Index ranking is also included as a measure of how likely it is that Republicans can win the seat in November; the lower the number the better the chance.
